Quakers, also known as the Religious Society of Friends, emerged in England during the mid-seventeenth century. George Fox became one of the movement's most influential early leaders. The first Friends sought a return to the primitive Christianity of the New Testament, believing that Christ was still present and actively teaching His people. His famous quote -
This came about because he was seeking the Truth and found no existing sect of organized Christianity "spoke to his condition." Until he realized, Christ himself has come to teach each of us, through the Light within (1 John 1:5).
We believe that "Christ has come to teach his people himself" through the inner light and this "Seed" of God is present in all people.
We reject traditional church hierarchy, structure, and sacraments because we believe that true, inward transformation matters more than any outward form that may occur without true inward transformation.
We practice "waiting worship." Many people call this silent worship. It's not. We are waiting upon the Lord. In our meetings, sometimes people speak, sometimes they do not. Someone may sing a song and a child may even speak. We are all equal in the sight of the Lord.
We believe in a true, visible transformation for the people who call themselves Christians. We do not believe you can claim to follow Christ, without living the way he called us to live.
My name is Rodney. You can call me at (330) 958-4038 or email me at rlljr01@yahoo.com. I do not speak for any other Quakers or Quaker groups. My heart is to ensure that people find the Truth of the Quaker way. This is truly a different way. It's a completely separate understanding of what it means to be a Christian. And I just want to share it with others.
Additionally, you can find more information on www.seekershaven.org and www.ohioyearlymeeting.org. Neither is endorsed or affiliated with this site but are the groups we align with.
You will find that Quakers, like many other groups have gone through various splits. We are Conservative Quakers. You will find many churches called "Friends" Churches. These churches typically have a Quaker origin, but I would say bear no witness to what George Fox envisioned for Quakers. You will also find that the largest Quaker groups today in the USA are "liberal" Quakers/Friends (not politically liberal and conservative). These groups also bear little witness to what George Fox describes. I believe Conservative Quakers carry forth the truth and I pray you find it.
